*Corner of Jefferson and Poete

The La Louisiane Bed & Breakfast which recently opened is located in what is known as the Scott Corner House.  The Scott Corner House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of Interior Circa 1919.  (Restored in 1978).

The corner of Poete and Jefferson was originally the site of a general mercantile store built and owned by Giovanni (John) Anselmo Rusca who arrived in Natchitoches from Torricella, Switzerland via Genoa, Italy and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the end of the Civil War in June 1865.  Mr. Anselmo Rusca built his residence in Natchitoches at what is now known as the Maison Louisiane Bed & Breakfast in 1880, his general store located on the corner offered everything from candy to furniture and was successful until his death at the age of 78 on July 13, 1920.

The Scott Corner House, now known as the La Louisiane B & B, was moved to this location in 1978 by architect, James Hearron.  The two story house was moved from Second & Touline.  The house was originally Victorian, but in order to move the house the roof had to be removed and was replaced with what is known as an African Roof changing the style of the La Louisiane B & B to Early French style.

The house was purchased December 2005 by Vannie Prudhomme, Jr. and Genise Prudhomme of California, whose family history traces back to the 1800's from the Oakland Plantation founded by Pierre Emmanuel Prudhomme a second-generation native of French decent.  In 1998 the Oakland Plantation was acquired by the National Park Service and is now open daily for tours.

Relax. Enjoy the pleasure of southern hospitality in the comfort of quiet luxury. This full-service inn located in the downtown National Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Properties. Circa 1919.

Shops, antique stores and restaurants are a stroll away. Feed the ducks or take a barge tour down the Cane River Lake. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride. A gallery encircles the second story of the house. A great place to sip morning coffee, the gallery is also the perfect vantage point from which to view the Christmas Parade, Mardi Gras floats, and the Steel Magnolia house situated just across the street.
